The Oregon State Beavers has nowhere to go but up after winning a combined seven games the last three years and brings in Jonathan Smith to be a head coach for the first time. Jake Luton returns at quarterback after a scary injury that cut his season short, and he has some familiar faces around him in running back Artavis Pierce, tight end Noah Togiai and wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins. Assuming Luton can stay healthy and takes better care of the football, Oregon State could be much improved on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively Oregon State has a lot of questions, especially after struggling mightily to get stops, but a pair of defensive backs in David Morris and Jalen Moore makes for one physical secondary. However, it will take more than that to slowdown these Pac-12 offenses. The Oregon State Beavers enter this contest losing 18 of their last 22 games SU.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have won no less than 11 games each of the last six seasons and enter yet another season as a national title contender. OSU has questions at quarterback for the first time in a while, but everybody should believe that Urban Meyer will figure things out as usual. Even with Meyer suspended the first few games, not much should change in that area. The Buckeyes have one of the better 1-2 punches at running back with J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber leading the charge, and Ohio State returns all of its top receivers from last season. Inexperienced quarterback or not, Ohio State won’t miss a beat offensively. Defensively, Ohio State will once again be an aggressive unit and is led by one of the top defensive players in the country in Nick Bosa. OSU is fast, covers a ton of ground and will make plenty of plays in the backfield once again. The Ohio State Buckeyes have lost just one home game since November of 2015.
