Del Potro announced his name to the world by beating Marin Cilic to win the 2009 US Open.
However, Grand Slam titles have been hard to come by since for the Argentinian world No 3.
Del Potro takes on Nadal in the semi-finals this evening (9pm BST) as the underdog but he is desperate to cause an upset.
The winner will face either Novak Djokovic or Kei Nishikori in Sunday’s final and Del Potro is keen to emerge from the weekend with his second major tournament win.
“I don’t know if I can get a new one, but I’m doing all my best to try to get again," Del Potro said.
“I couldn’t hold the trophy in that moment. I was so, so nervous, happy.
“I couldn’t talk to the fans in that moment, like, nine years ago.
“But I have my trophy at home. I like to see that trophy every single day in my home."
Del Potro and Nadal clashed in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in a battle which went the full five sets.

It is expected the duo will be similarly matched again but Del Potro is remaining focussed on the task at hand.
“It could be another big battle as the Wimbledon match was," he admitted.
“Of course, I like to play always with the No 1 of the world, doesn’t matter the tournament or the conditions or the weather.
