The New England Patriots will wrap up their 2018 preseason schedule on Thursday night in the Meadowlands against the New York Giants.
While the fourth preseason game is often looked down upon from an entertainment standpoint, it is the last time for players to prove their worth on an NFL roster, whether it be for the team they are currently playing for or for another scouting team.
And quite frankly, for some, it is the final competitive football action they will see for the rest of their life.
Here are some things to look out for in Patriots vs. Giants.
We know, for the most part, who is making the roster from the wide receiver group. Julian Edelman doesn’t even count for the initial 53-man roster as he serves his four-game suspension.
So besides Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarelle Patterson, who is cracking this team’s wide receiving corps?
Is it one of Riley McCarron, Braxton Berrios and Devin Lucien? Is that fourth receiver not yet on the team? Playing it safe and assuming the former, one would have to think one of McCarron, Berrios and Lucien fills Edelman’s roster spot for the first month of the season.

Neither of the three has exactly stood out this preseason, especially Berrios, who has missed the last two games to injury. McCarron has totaled five catches for 55 yards while Lucien has tallied four catches for 71 yards. It is worth noting McCarron logged 40 snaps in California
McCarron’s experience with the starters could prove the difference maker when it comes time to roster cutdown on Saturday, but if Berrios, assuming he plays, or Lucien have a strong performance, Bill Belichick might have a difficult decision on his hands.
